How to choose the best CMS for a dental website

Criteria for choosing a CMS for a dental website

Alixan Telnov
I am writing this for practice owners, not for developers. Everything here is considered from the perspective of the dental clinic.

There are many CMS options, and I will not waste your time describing all of them. Let us start by defining what we need from the system, then identify which CMS platforms meet those requirements. After that we can discuss other CMS options that might appear in a dental website development proposal.

Here is my list of requirements:

A user-friendly built-in editor

Regular updates and development

Plugins that extend functionality

Security and website protection

Professional community

Launching a website is not the end — it is the beginning

Some people launch a website and never touch it again. Others want to develop, update, and expand it. That is why I placed independent content publishing capability at the top of my requirements. The most important thing for me was choosing a page builder that would suit my future clients — one that would not overwhelm them with complex settings. I found that builder, and I thank myself for it every single day.

It genuinely became the foundation of my success. All my dental websites are built on it, and clients regularly tell me how much they enjoy working with it.

A modern dental website must have a user-friendly editor or page builder

There are two options: a page builder running locally on your own hosting, or a cloud-based builder.

Briefly, the difference is this: in the first case, you pay only for hosting space and have full control over your website — you are responsible for its performance, updates, and security. In the second case, you pay for hosting plus a monthly subscription for the builder. The platform developer handles updates and technical maintenance, and your site runs on their servers — you have no direct access.

I chose the first option for several reasons:

    Lower monthly costs

for me and for my future clients

    Greater flexibility

I can install, swap, and choose the best plugins myself

    Wider capabilities

I can combine solutions from different developers

    Independence from the platform creator

Those who prefer cloud-based builders also have strong arguments.

The choice comes down to one question: does the website builder want more freedom and responsibility, or do they want to delegate technical control to the platform creator?

There are many excellent page builders on the market. They are all impressive: Tilda, Wix, Webflow, Squarespace and others. For a first site or a small project, one of these might be the right choice. But I do not use them, for the reasons listed above. I need the ability to get under the bonnet of the website and work with its internals — and cloud-based builders simply do not allow this.

WordPress and Joomla — the most popular
and best solution for a dental website

My dental websites are built on a Joomla foundation with what I consider to be the best page builder layered on top. Whether WordPress or Joomla — as a client, it makes no practical difference to you. These are the two most widely used website systems in the world. Their popularity reflects their quality. The developers who build websites choose them for good reasons — you do not need to know all of those reasons, simply accept that their popularity is earned and is a direct expression of their strengths.

Once I had found the right page builder, I created several ready-made dental website projects, because I had watched two friends unsuccessfully trying to solve this exact problem for their own clinics. Now you do not need to reinvent the wheel — you can simply choose an excellent ready-made dental website solution.

Only one practice in your city gets the best dental website.

Dear colleagues, my name is Alexey Ryabov. I am a dental surgeon and the owner of Albus Dente, my own dental clinic.

It is a rare thing when someone who builds dental websites truly understands dentistry. We agreed quickly. We saw a thoughtful, logical and beautifully designed project. All we needed to verify was how the site was managed — and it turned out to be impressively straightforward. As they say, true quality is simple!

In my medical practice, predictability is everything. What I appreciated most was that from the very beginning, we knew what the final result would look like — and we achieved exactly that.

We are genuinely glad we found this dental website developer. It simplified and accelerated our clinic's growth enormously. I recommend him wholeheartedly to my colleagues as a skilled specialist and a reliable professional. If I ever need another website, my choice is already made.
